What is a Google Partner?
As the customer, it means that you employ a digital marketing agency which has been accredited by Google as being able to do what their qualification says they can.
What are “Google Partners”?
Google Partners is Google’s programme for advertising agencies, digital marketing professionals and other online consultants. By joining Partners, the agency can access special events and training, industry research, Google AdWords product updates and certification exams and study materials.
They’ve passed exams
Google run training for people who want to become certified in various subjects, including Adwords, Google Analytics and more. This training is quite intensive and ideally requires Adwords experience. An individual goes through the training and then has to pass an exam with at least an 80% pass rate.
The individual has to pass the Adwords Fundamental exam plus at least 1 of the others shown below:
|AdWords Fundamentals||The AdWords Fundamentals exam covers basic and intermediate concepts, including the benefits of online advertising and AdWords, and best practices for managing and optimising AdWords campaigns.|
|Search Advertising||The Search Advertising exam covers advanced concepts and best practices for creating, managing, measuring and optimising Search campaigns.|
|Display Advertising||The Display Advertising exam covers advanced concepts and best practices for creating, managing, measuring and optimising Display campaigns.|
|Mobile Advertising||The Mobile Advertising exam covers the basic and advanced concepts of mobile advertising, including ad formats, bidding and targeting and campaign measurement and optimisation.|
|Video Advertising||The Video Advertising exam covers basic and advanced concepts, including best practices for creating, managing, measuring and optimising video advertising campaigns across YouTube and the web.|
|Shopping Advertising||The Shopping Advertising exam covers basic and advanced concepts, including creating a Merchant Center account and product data feed and creating and managing Shopping campaigns.|
They manage a certain level of spend with Google
For an agency to become a Google Partner, it must have at least one certified Google professional. In addition to that an agency has to be managing a certain level of spend before it can be accredited as a Google Partner Agency. As the client, you then know that this agency has put their knowledge into practice. As an example, an agency has to be managing $10,000 of Adwords spend over 90 days to qualify for Google Partner status.
They are measured by Google
Google review our client accounts to make sure that you are getting excellent service, including the type and frequency of the changes we’re making, client retention and whether we’re making the most of your clients’ budgets. For Adwords they measure whether we’re using functionalities such as:
- adding negative keywords
- adding site links
- using ad extensions
- using phrase match and exact match keywords
- adding multiple text ads
- improving quality scores
- adding broad match modified keywords
- using ad scheduling
- adding relevant keywords to each ad group
That’s a lot to take in! They also measure customer satisfaction criteria such as our client retention rate, how well and how regularly we optimise your account and how we optimise your account to give you the best return possible.
They have direct access to Google
Google is a huge organisation, and yet Google Partners have access to them should they need their support. They provide support when we have specific queries, and they will review client’s Adwords campaigns for us should we have an issue.
For example, a client’s website recently became infected with a virus, which automatically paused his Adwords account. We were able to speak to Google who talked us through exactly where the coding had been added in the site, and get it cleared within 24 hours. The client’s website was up and running again quickly – vital if you depend on your website for lead generation.
Google Partner status means that you can rest easy knowing that the agency you’re dealing with has passed Google’s stringent requirements and is constantly monitored to ensure it performs for its clients.
